Local Life

There are many cultural and recreational activities available outside the gates of The Greenbrier Sporting Club Community.

Recreational activities abound, with the Greenbrier River a major regional tourist attraction, featuring fishing, biking along the 80-mile rail-to-trail Greenbrier River trail, and tubing throughout the warmer months. Private bird hunting can be found at nearby Stoney Brook  Plantation (only 35 min. away), while Snowshoe Mountain, a mere 1.5 hour drive, features some of the best skiing on the East Coast. With Class V whitewater rafting, multiple state and national parks and forests, recreational bodies of water, world-class fly fishing and scenic byroads, the  recreational pastimes in and around The Greenbrier Sporting Club are unsurpassable in terms of options and availability.
Merely two miles away from The Greenbrier Sporting Club, and a few blocks from The Greenbrier Resort, is the growing downtown area of White Sulphur Springs. Along Main Street you will find an array of businesses including a wine shop, international grocery, hardware store, craft brewery, boutique shops, pet grooming, cafes, and several restaurants. A new concert hall offers regular live performances and has a capacity to host up to six hundred attendees. White Sulphur Springs is also home to the Dandelion Festival, a three-day celebration held annually on Memorial Day Weekend which includes live music, vendors, outdoor activities, fireworks and more.

Just nine short miles away is Lewisburg, named one of the Dozen Distinctive Destinations by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and one of the Best Small Art Towns in America.  In 2011, Lewisburg was dubbed "The Coolest Small Town in America," by Budget Travel Magazine.  Downtown, both Carnegie Hall and the Greenbrier Valley Theatre offer residents and visitors alike access to the finest theatrical and musical events in the state. Lewisburg is also home to the State Fair of West Virginia, a beautiful historic district, great shopping, restaurants and nightlife.
Our beautiful region promises visitors an array of attractions, events and cultural opportunities for short day excursions outside of The Greenbrier's grounds. Here you will find everything from world-famous cuisine to authentic country cooking, adventurous outdoor recreation to pampering relaxation. The possibilities here are endless.
