Fitness Classes Overview

Yoga

This class is a gentle practice of poses selected for full body movement with a focus on connecting with your breath and an emphasis on relaxation.

Booty

Focusing on muscles of the lower body (glutes, abductors, adductors, quads, and hamstrings) this high impact class is a total body workout that lifts your booty, tones your thighs, and scorches fat.

Postural Body Work

This training system develops postural habits, decompresses the spine and builds incredible strength that transfer to all areas of your life.  We focus on the posterior chain muscles that are the basis of much of our body’s movement patterns.

Core Conditioning

Specific exercises for strengthening the abdominals, back muscles, and gluteals; this class improves posture and balance.

Cardio Core

Easy to follow Low Impact Aerobic Choreography designed to improve endurance and balance followed by structured Core work to improve posture, abdominal appearance, core stability while strengthening the lower back.

H.I.I.T.

High Intensity Interval Training or HIIT is a type of workout where you give maximum effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise followed by short recovery periods. H.I.I.T. workouts train and condition both your aerobic and anaerobic energy systems. H.I.I.T. workouts get your heart rate up and improve your cardiovascular fitness level while burning more fat and calories in less time.

Water Aerobics

A great water workout for all fitness levels, this class emphasizes cardiovascular, toning, and flexibility with the use of dumbbells, kickboards, and noodles.

Nordic Walking

Nordic Walking is a form of physical activity, where regular, natural walking is enhanced by the addition of the active use of a pair of specially-designed Nordic Walking poles. However, the characteristics of natural, biomechanically-correct walking and appropriate posture are maintained in all aspects.  The fitness center has Nordic Walking poles for you to try.

Interval

Cyclical workout involving intervals of cardiovascular workout and recovery.  This combination increases the burning of total calories which then increases the number of fat calories burned.

Full Body

This class focuses on all major muscle groups with special attention to form as one executes the exercises.  It is a workout that incorporates free weights, resistance bands, kettlebells, and other equipment as all parts of the body are worked and conditioned.

Yoga Alive!

A new class that supports your vibrant health and clarity of mind through enjoyable, innovative and compassionate teachings that integrate many different schools of yoga.  This class balances stamina, strength and endurance with deep release and relaxation.  Private therapeutic yoga lessons are also available to address your individual needs and to activate your full potential.

Resistance Stretching

A different way of approaching stretching, resistance stretching offers immediate, cumulative, and permanent increases in flexibility, takes the pain out of stretching, and protects you from injuring yourself by overstretching.

Fitness Walk

This morning walk takes various routes around The Sporting Club property.  The walk is about 50 minutes in length and covers between 2.75 and 3.2 miles, depending upon the route.  It’s a lovely way to greet the day and warm up before a 9am fitness class.

Superset

A superset is performed when two exercises are performed in a row without stopping.  There are a variety of options – you can either superset within the same body part or you can train two different body parts. Supersetting is often the lifting method of choice for those looking to add a cardio respiratory element into their weight training for increased calorie burning and better overall conditioning.

Open Climb

You will build confidence when you experience our 25-foot indoor climbing wall. Assistance will be available at designated times. This is a great activity for inclement weather.

Circuit

This class is centered around stations of specific exercises to challenge muscle endurance, muscle strength, cardio output, and flexibility.  There are
ten to fifteen stations – you stay at each station for a timed interval and then move to the next exercise.

Strength

Rhythm driven endurance weight lifting for the major muscle groups.

L.I.A.R.'s Club

If you don’t feel “silver” but don’t want (or are intimidated by) a high intensity aerobics class the L.I.A.R.’s Club is for you.  This low impact aerobic recreation class incorporates motions where one foot stays on the ground at all times.  It will get your heart pumping and is less stressful to the body especially the joints, thus reducing the risk of injury.

Zumba

Fitness is "Exercise in Disguise" This calorie burning workout uses hot Latin and international rhythms and music to create an exhilarating and effective workout! ZUMBA is perfect for ALL levels of Fitness.

Personal Training for Postural Body Work and Resistance Stretching

Computer time, cell phone use, long hours in a chair and other pitfalls of life that collapse the body have all created a plethora of painful muscular imbalances. Conducting training sessions either in the Fitness Center or in the comfort and privacy of your home, we will help you delve deeper into a system that develops postural habits, decompresses the spine and builds foundational strength.  By learning to activate the posterior chain you will increase strength in the muscles that are the basis of much of our body’s movement patterns. Learn to move freely, efficiently and pain-free!

Or

Design a tailored program that will help you reach your goals by implementing strength training, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, and fun during your workouts. This program is designed to complement your home routine and to maximize your use of the Fitness Center.

Fitness Evaluation

A body fat analysis, flexibility test, girth measurements, and other assessments help to determine your fitness level. A program is designed by one of our fitness professionals and they will ensure that you are learning the best skills and technique so that from the beginning you are creating good exercise habits to get the best results. Allow 50 minutes.

Personal Climb

For individuals or groups of up to 6 people, if you wish to climb at times other than those designated on our fitness schedule, please call the Fitness Center or Concierge Desk to check availability.  All climbs are under the supervision of trained GSC staff.
